PODEMOS began as a student initiative in the summer of 2008. It was pioneered by four students from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, A law student from the Moritz College of Law and a Nurse from the Columbia University College of Nursing. Working closely with the leadership of Students Helping Honduras they designed and carried out extensive research into the epidemiology, demographics and needs of two communities on the outskirts of El Progreso Honduras. More than just research, this initial contact provided the foundation for friendship and trust between the professional students and their future patients. This relationship is still young, but it continues to be strengthened by our commitment to return and serve and by the communities’ consistent patience and hospitality. We will continue our new tradition of service by returning this summer.
